Welcome to the wacki wiki! For a site that requires such dry and technical editing on the main space, there are a lot of interesting characters lurking about. You have the image Image:Cowbell2.gif on your user page; this image is copyrighted and used in the Will Ferrell article under Wikipedia:Fair use. The use on your user page of that image is unlikely to be covered by use however, and as such is probably a Copyright violation. Could you remove the image from your user page? You said on the Ian Punnett talk page that you were the one who emailed a link to Punnett to the Coast-to-Coast AM article in which it said he had politically liberal views. What was the date of that version of the article? I think we might want to make note of this as a citation of Wikipedia. Also, because it gives a clue into his actual political views, it is worthy to be part of the website, though it also may be construed as a self-reference which we try to avoid. Thanks for uploading Image:Lonelyisland.jpeg. However, the image may soon be deleted unless we can determine the copyright holder and copyright status. The Wikimedia Foundation is very careful about the images included in Wikipedia because of copyright law (see Wikipedia's Copyright policy).

The copyright holder is usually the creator, the creator's employer, or the last person who was transferred ownership rights. Copyright information on images is signified using copyright templates. The three basic license types on Wikipedia are open content, public domain, and fair use. Find the appropriate template in Wikipedia:Image copyright tags and place it on the image page like this: {{TemplateName}}.

Hey, I don't know if I did something wrong when I upped the lonely island image but in the comments I clearly stated that the image is avb from the thelonelyisland.com under a creative common lisence and it is free to distribute. From their website it says "All materials are copyright © 2000-2005 Snuglar Entertainment. Some of the content may be redistributed, sampled, and remixed under this Creative Commons License." But it doesn't make clear which is full copyright and which can be redistributed. Regardless the creative commons license they picked does not allow for commercial redistribution, and is not compatible with the GFDL. Wikipedia is non-commercial, but the GFDL allows people to use content for commercial reasons as long as they retain the license. That's how places like about.com and the other million mirrors are legal. So, I don't know, If you actually know these people maybe you could get them to release it under gfdl, or the creative commons By-Sa-2.5 license, if they would rather stick with creative commons. They would only have to change the license on this one image, not their whole site or anything, and an email saying that was the case to you would be fine :D Hope it works out! - cohesion★talk 20:59, 22 January 2006 (UTC)
