[edit] Jake Ford
Hey, the Jake ford article looks good. It's ok if it's short if there's not much info available. I added some categories and more links to other articles. I'm glad you decided to write the article, it's definitely one Wikipedia needs. Talk to you soon. Peace, delldot | talk 03:16, 16 October 2006 (UTC)
Yeah, nice work! --Brian Z 21:28, 16 October 2006 (UTC)
- Yeah, It's good to add links in other articles so more link to your page and it will be more connected. But yeah, it's quite good. you're likely to find worse articles by pressing "random page" a couple times! BTW, if you're finding that you're getting signed out from your username a lot, you might need to check "remember me" in the sign in page. It's not like checking "remember me on this computer", because it only remembers you until you close the wikipedia windows.
- So here's the bad news: I have heavy revisions to do on my 4th thesis chapter, so more work for me for the next 2 weeks. Not entirely a surprise; I might have told you that the 4th chapter was kind of thrown together. Ah well. I've been severely slacking off lately. Anyway, talk to you soon. [edit] Redirecting
You're talking about making a redirect page, right? Say you want to redirect Harold Ford to go to Harold Ford Jr (the target page). You go to harold ford (the redirect page) and you type in:
#Redirect [[Harold Ford Jr.]]
Hit show preview and make sure that it directs to the right page and that you used the exact article title of the target page (you don't want to create a double redirect). Then save. Then any time someone types in Harold ford, they will automatically go to Harold Ford Jr.
Now on the other hand, if there's already an existing article at the one you want to redirect, you'll have to discuss with the other editors on the article's talk page whether the content should be merged into the other article and that page made into a redirect.
If you want an existing article to redirect to a nonexistant page (e.g. you want Harold Ford Jr. to redirect to Harold Ford, which is currently a redirect page) you would use the move button at the top of the page. It might not have shown up for you yet because I think users only get it once they've been signed up for a while. I can do moves for you until the button shows up.
Here's my good news: I got the thesis chapter back, and it's not as much work as I thought. THere's some slashing and burning, but at least I don't have to do too much more research. so yipee!
Anyway, it's really fun having you on wikipedia. It's like i get to show you around and stuff! Are you liking it here? Peace, delldot | talk 01:23, 18 October 2006 (UTC)
- Yeah, you want to be able to type in "Horatio Alger Association" and have the page "Horatio alger association for blah blah..." pop up, right? You'd make a redirect on the page "Horatio Alger Association". That way you'd get forwarded to the longer, proper name when you typed that in. Is this what you're talking about? That seems like a good way to handle it to me. Or are you saying the longer name should instead be forwarded to the shorter, more commonly used name? That would call for a page move. But I say redirect is the way to go. Sorry if i'm still not getting what you're trying to say. But keep the messages coming, I love getting messages! - Call me if you want; we'll figure it out! Peace, delldot | talk 07:23, 18 October 2006 (UTC)
- Yup, it looks good. When you type in Horatio Alger Association, is this what you want to have happen? btw, I changed "for" to "of" in your redirect because the link was red, meaning it thought there was no article for that. And I created another redirect from Horatio Alger Association for Distinguished Americans to Horatio Alger Association of Distinguished Americans. Well, I'm working on finishing up my revisions to chapter 4, and I'll try to get it to her today. Yay! Peace, delldot | talk 15:55, 19 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Hiya
Sorry it took me so long to call back, but I tried to call you today and no answer. You must not have an answering machine. Anyway, gimme a call soon if you want. Peace, delldot | talk 06:40, 22 October 2006 (UTC)
[edit] gre
you're gonna do awesome! :) delldot | talk 16:52, 23 October 2006 (UTC)
- about the gre essays: they take the scores from both and average them together. So if you get a 5.5 on one and a 6 on the other, you get a 6. You never know what the individual scores are. I think two different people grade each essay too, so it's really an average of 4.
