Sri Temasek

The Sri Temasek (Chinese: 斯里淡马锡) is a bungalow built in 1869 and sited within the grounds of the Istana in Singapore. Previously serving as the residence of the Colonial Secretary during the island's colonial era, its outstanding architectural feature lies in its intricate timber arcade which shows a mixture of eastern and western decorative motifs. As of January 2007, the building is undergoing upgrading works.
Of note is a wooden "Chinese Moon Gateway" located on the building's first floor. First installed about 4 decades ago, it was designed and built by William Swaffield, and made of chengal, teak and meranti, although no other records exist concerning its construction and usage.
