Stanley Richmond is a character on the U.S. post-apocalyptic drama Jericho. He is played by Brad Beyer.
Stanley is a farmer who lives with his deaf sister Bonnie on their late parents' farm on the outskirts of the town of Jericho, Kansas. He is a good friend of Jake Green, the primary character of the series.
Stanley and Bonnie are first shown when Jake visits their farm upon returning to town after a mysterious five-year absence. The Richmond farm was audited by IRS agent Mimi Clark day before, and Stanley owes thousands of dollars in unpaid taxes. Later in the day the nuclear attacks occur.
In the morning after the attacks Stanley leaves the house in the care of his sister in order to check on his livestock. This potentially saves his life as Emily Sullivan unwittingly leads two escaped convicts posing as sheriff's deputies to the farm, eventually escalating to a confrontation which results in Bonnie being taken hostage and the two convicts being shot dead by her and Jake. Although the others immediately take refuge in the farmhouse's storm cellar, Stanley is caught in a fallout-laden shower that takes place soon afterward.
Upon his return, he is feared to have suffered serious radiation poisoning, and April Green orders him to drink a dose of iodine and watch his condition closely. A later check-up reveals no apparent ill-effects.
As the town begins to prepare for an unknown future, Stanley becomes involved with Jake's plans to help the citizens of Jericho, including transporting many gallons of gasoline in an unsafe metal container to the medical center, and helping him get a water pump working in order to fight a fire. Two weeks after the attacks he becomes stressed over losing his entire corn crop to an infestation, however the townspeople rally together to help him harvest the surviving fields.
Eventually Stanley bumps into Mimi again when he finds her in a medical center examination room, scared that she may die of radiation poisoning after accidentally dipping her fingers in a puddle of nuclear ash and rainwater. To her surprise, Stanley pleasantly reassures her that she will be fine, despite her role in effectively making his life harder. He also begins mockingly calling her "Uncle Sam" because of her position as a federal employee. He also teases Mimi when she shows off her Rolex watch and Stanley asks for the time sarcastically and Mimi tells Stanley the watch doesn't work after the EMP and Stanley Says, "Hou 'bout I pay you when it starts up again," in reference to his unpaid taxes and knowing the watch will never work.
Eventually Mimi offers to help at the farm in exchange for room, board and partial deferrment of the debt to the IRS, and later gives up her expensive watch in order to pay some kids to steal much needed pesticide for the farm. She also helps Stanley recover when Jonah's gang assaults him in order to steal a generator. This closeness leads to their budding romantic relationship taking another step on Thanksgiving morning, when they kiss.
After the marines are sent off in Semper Fidelis, Johnston asks Stanley to keep their newly acquired tank in his barn, to which he is happy to comply.
