"Start!" is a song by The Jam which reached #1 on the UK singles chart in August 1980.
Written by Paul Weller and produced by Vic Coppersmith-Heaven and The Jam, "Start!" was the lead single from the band's fifth album Sound Affects. Upon its release on 15th August 1980 it debuted at #3, rising the following week to become the band's second #1, following Going Underground. The single's B-side was "Liza Radley".
Showcasing a more experimental style than The Jam's previous recordings, "Start!" is based on both the main guitar riff and bass riff of The Beatles' 1966 song "Taxman" from the album Revolver.
In 2007, this song was used as a jingle for a Cadillac commercial.
