Story Prize

The Story Prize is an annual book award that began in 2004 honoring the author of an outstanding collection of short fiction with a $20,000 cash award. Each of two runners-up receives $5,000. Eligible books must be written in English and first published in the United States during a calendar year.
The 2004 winner was Edwidge Danticat for The Dew Breaker.
The 2004 finalists were Cathy Day for The Circus in Winter and Joan Silber for Ideas of Heaven.
The 2005 finalists were Jim Harrison for The Summer He Didn't Die, Maureen F. McHugh for Mothers and other Monsters, and Patrick O'Keefe for The Hill Road. The winner for 2005 was Patrick O'Keefe.
The 2006 finalists were Rick Bass for The Lives of Rocks, Mary Gordon for The Stories of Mary Gordon, and George Saunders for In Persuasion Nation. Mary Gordon is the 2006 winner, as announced on Feb. 28, 2007 at the New School's Tishman Auditorium in New York City.
