Sweet Muenster Cheese
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Sweet Muenster Cheese is a kosher cheese product sometimes called Munchee, or Sweet Munchee cheese. Normally, it is sold at delicatessens or delicatessen counters at markets, along with fish products often called appetizing foods which include smoked fishes, bagels, cream cheese, and pickled olives. Sweet Muenster Cheese melts easily on crackers or toast.
Sweet Muenster Cheese is not identical to Muenster cheese. Muenster cheese is a natural cheese, while Sweet Muenster Cheese is a slightly processed cheese product. Regular Muenster cheese usually has an orange or yellowish-orange rind (see illustration in the article Muenster cheese) and a creamy-spongy texture; Sweet Muenster Cheese has no rind and a smooth, meltable texture.
Delicatessens offer platters and sandwiches with Sweet Muenster Cheese; caterers, sometimes kosher or kosher-style caterers, but others as well who mix Sweet Muenster Cheese with meats, often include Sweet Muenster Cheese on their smoked fish platters; see for example:
