Constantine I (February 27, 272 – May 22, 337) was a powerful ruler who reigned over the Roman Empire until his death. He made the old city Byzantium which is now Istanbul, a city in Turkey capital of the whole Roman Empire. As emperor, he named the city Constantinople, which means City of Constantine in Greek.
Constantine found a sign in the sky saying "in hoc signo vinces" which means "in this sign you shall conquer." He saw this sign before the Battle of Milvian Bridge. He did win that battle which made him the ruler of the West.
