Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone is the first book in the Harry Potter series by English author J.K. Rowlings. It was published in 1997 and a movie version was released in 2001. In the United States the book and movie are called Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone.

The story is about a boy named Harry Potter, who finds out that he is a wizard. He learns out that his parents were killed by a evil wizard when he was a baby, and that he was almost killed with them. Harry goes to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry to learn to become a wizard. He makes friends there. He finds out that Voldemort wants to come back by using a magical stone called the Philosopher's Stone. He and his friends go on a quest to destroy the stone and stop Voldemort from returning.
