Tareq Rahman

Tarique Rahman is a Bangladeshi politician. He is Second Joint Secretary-General of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP). Mr. Rahman is a politician from the northern district of Bogra. His mother is Khaleda Zia, the former Prime Minister of Bangladesh and the Chairperson of BNP. Tarique Rahman's father was the late President Ziaur Rahman.
On March 8, 2007, Tarique Rahman was arrested by law enforcing authorities on allegations of corruption during the BNP's five-year regime. He is considered one of the most corrupt politicians in the history of Bangladesh and has reportedly embezzled a huge amount of money from the country. Under interrogation he admitted to having bank accounts in Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, South Africa and Switzerland. The Malalysian government froze $230 million of his money which he had hoped to invest there, as he could not explain the source of the money.[1] He is now in jail and faces several charges including extorting $147,000 from a construction company.[2]
