TelVue Virtual Television Networks
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
TelVue Virtual Television Networks is a network of municipally owned and operated public access cable television channels.
A TelVue Virtual Television channel is a virtual TV channel, and all content is controlled by people within the municipality served by the channel. This is done through TelVue's Webbus interface. The Webbus allows messages to by typed and quickly added to the television network. At the viewer's end, the messages play in a continuous and automatic circulation, so that news can quickly be spread. Webbus also allows short film clips to be added. Telvue personnell can also record voice overs for certain announcements to further enhance the purpose.
Through the Webbus interface, all content is then sent to a TelVue player, located at the cable provider's office. The TelVue player assembles all of the channel's content and then broadcasts it through the cable system. Through instant retrieval from the internet, localized weather forecasts and traffic reports are added to the individual channels for the communities they serve. All content plays in a rotational pattern, and repeats after all content has played through.
The aim of TelVue Networks is to help municipalities fully realize the value of a local television channel. The funding for the operation of a channel can come from a variety of sources, but is not at a cost to the cable subscribers. Sponsorship by several local businesses is a one option. With this option, the businesses will have there message played on one TelVue channel in exchange for their sponsorship. Corporate sponsership is also another option. With corporate sponsorship, a large corporation can sponser several stations across a wider area.
