Malaysian telephone numbering are organized, mainly because of the good move Telekom Malaysia made from the past to reserve the telephone numbering in Malaysia. The area codes in Malaysia vary between states. Mobile phone users are given a different area codes than a normal landline telephone users have.

- Subscriber Number: 6-8 digits
- Trunk Prefix: 0
- International Prefix: 00

Landline phone calling prefix are partitioned between each states.

Malaysian mobile phone users are given a provider-specific number. There are currently three major mobile phone providers in Malaysia after they've taken smaller telecommunications providers and merged them.
Mobile phone format is 01x-xxxxxxx. It starts with a 01x prefix, and followed by a 7 identical number.
The calling prefixes for mobile numbers are
010 Celcom (not used anymore) 011 Celcom (not used anymore) 012 Maxis 013 Emartel (before acquisition by Celcom) 014 Shared by the three major telecommunication provider, DiGi, Maxis and Celcom 015 Currently a VOIP-specific number addressed by TMnet and Jaring 016 Digi1800 (now called DiGi, the only original non-acquisizer telecommunication provider in Malaysia) 017 Adam (before acquisition by Maxis) 018 Mobikom (not used anymore) 019 Celcom
