There is something called "QICQ" now. Is it something compatible to QQ, or is it some sort of add-in to the system? Somebody in the Chinese version claimed that it is the new name for QQ, but I wonder, as such information was not found in the official website of QQ. --Tomchiukc 07:25, 25 Jun 2004 (UTC)

so far as i know, "OICQ" stands for "open ICQ". i don't know how they got this name, but it was changed into "QQ" shortly later. --Yacht (talk) 17:50, Jun 25, 2004 (UTC)

Your right. I searched the net, but only the Chinese form was available. Non chinese are locked out!

Because QQ only runs on Windows, some hobbiest (Mainly Chinese Mac / Linux) users tried to develope thrid party QQ clients that can be excuted on other operating systems through reverse engineering the original QQ portocol. iQQ, LumaQQ and isQ are some most famous examples. However, since late 2005, Tencent strengthened its network security and blocked all unofficial access to its server. As by now (July, 2006), QQ can only be accessed from its offical released windows client.

This is not true, LumaQQ 2005 and 2006 are able to log on to tencent servers as of august 2006

The [MMORPG] [World of Warcraft] player base use the emoticon QQ on the official forums and during in-game chat. In Warcraft terms QQ has different meanings than suggested above, the first being "Cry More", the second being "Quite Crying". The linkage being that two capitalised [Q] symbolise a crying face, with the tail of the Q representing a tear. Two Qs representing a crying face.

The emoticon is used in a pejorative sense usually, most often when someone raises an issue, problem or question. Using QQ as a response signifies contempt on the part of the responder for the original post or comment made. Crying usually being the outcome of someone who is either very sad, angry or subject to hysterial laughter. In many societies the act of crying is looked down upon amongst males, and like many games, Warcraft has far more males than fermale players, so to suggest or imply that a gamer is crying or should cry more denigrates their sexuality.

Example of use (copied from the official Warcraft forums)

"To the person who spent an hour corpse camping me: get a friggen life! Blizzard - ban this guy's account!"

First response: "QQ [noob]

Deleted all the QQ emoticon and World of Warcraft stuff. Disambiguation pages are solely intended to allow users to choose among several Wikipedia articles, usually when a user searches for an ambiguous term. It is NOT the proper place to define the various terms, those belong on their own pages. The QQ emoticon info also lacked any sources and was total original research. I am not sure I approve of people deleting stuff without making an attempt to replicate the information (unless incorrect) in the correct place. It seems to defeat the purpose of an information storage point.
