Thanks for the Night was a single released by The Damned in 1984.
It was recorded at something of a transitional stage for the group, being the last studio recording completed with Captain Sensible until 2001's Grave Disorder album. It was also the first recording to feature bass player Bryn Merrick, and also the first to see Strawberries keyboardist Roman Jugg as a full member of the band. The song also bore a strong resemblance to the Strawberries album track "Ignite".
The B-side, "Nasty", was recorded for the BBC comedy series The Young Ones, which was performed during the episode of the same name in 1984.
The single was also issued in Germany, by Bellaphon Records. While it was not attached to any Damned album, it has since been included on a number of Damned compilations and live albums, as have the B-side tracks.

[edit] Lyrics
THANKS FOR THE NIGHT
Well thanks for the night
The swag and a lovely affray
Thanks for the night
You give and we'll take it away
It was a smash and grab con flab
An all night show and we weren't nabbed
A thrill for one and all, a ball
Join us or be a fool
Thanks for the night
Well I know a place
Where we can have fun tonight
Yeah I know a place
Where we can be one tonight
Old bill and ben and all his friends will be there
Standing in a row
The News at Ten and I.T.N. Will be there
Don't be slow
The fires ignite all down the road
The scene explodes and I say
It's been alright
Thanks for the night
A fine affair, the narks are there
And we don't care, 'cos I say
Its been alright
Thanks for the night
Thanks for the night
The night
The night
NASTY
Catch the Tide at the Flood
My TV screen is seeking Blood
My walls, my floors are red too
The night is coming after you
I Only Hear the Silver Scream of Pain
He’s Coming for you again and again
There’s no escape, there’s no way out
Catch Catch the horror taxi
I fell in love with a Video Nasty
Catch Catch the horror train
Freeze Frame is gonna drive you insane
Axe is sharp and the blade is keen
Creature Features, Spirits on your screen
Shadows fall, in all this gloom
Your not so safe
In the safety of your room
All I want is to make a killing
The Driller Killer might be really thrilling
Why are my victims so unwilling
You can’t be sure that you won’t see me
Careful with that Axe you Meanie
Catch Catch the horror taxi
I fell in love with a Video Nasty
Catch Catch the horror train
Freeze Frame is gonna drive you insane
