Jungle Jam and Friends: the Radio Show!, or just Jungle Jam, is a radio show with Evangelical Christian themes as well as witty, entertaining stories geared for both juvenile, teen, and adult audiences that take place either in the Jungle or with the Jungle Jam gang. The show also features an and Friends segegment, usually an adventure on RazzleFlabben Island with Marvy Snuffleson. Created by Jeff Parker and featuring the voice, writing and sound editing talents of Nathan Carlson, Phil Lollar, David Buller and many others, the program first aired in 1993. Within two years, it was airing on over 800 radio stations. Cassettes of the broadcast were available from Word Entertainment until the year 2000. At that point, the show was taken over by Fancy Monkey Studios, Inc., who sell CDs of the broadcast at FancyMonkey.com. Fancy Monkey Studios is also the producer of the cartoon series Little Dogs on the Prairie. Jungle Jam continues to air with the newest episode, Driving Miss Lazy released in 2006. The series features songs by award-winning husband and wife musicians, Buddy Miller and Julie Miller.
[edit] Major Characters of the Jungle
- Gruffy Bear - is perpetually cheerful, and loves to build things. In the episode "The Big Bang Theory," it is revealed that Gruffy brought the Jungle Jam gang together when he hosted a big party and invited the "funnest" animals in the world to come. Gruffy is friendly, and loves to fish with his best friend, Hermie the Love Bug. His catchphrase is "Dum-de-dum dum dum."
- Sully the Aardvark - is cheerful, but not particularly bright. His best friend is Millard J. Monkey, with whom he frequently gets into adventures. Sully loves to swim and do cannon-balls in the swimming hole, and is admired for his ability.
- Millard J. Monkey - is dim-witted, greedy, vain, and is often the character who needs to learn the "lesson" of the episode he is in. At the same time, he is one of the most popular Jungle Jam characters. He graduated top of his class at Simian University in "Swinging from Trees" and "Banana Peeling." Before moving to the Jungle Jam jungle, he apparently lived entirely among rhinocerouses ("The Big Bang Theory").
- Nozzles the Elephant - is wise and has a dry wit, making him a favorite character among parents listening to the Jungle Jam show. He loves to read books, especially mystery novels ("Lord of the Wrongs"), garden, play the trumpet, and sing scat. He is a collector of nifty gadgets. In many episodes of Jungle Jam, Nozzles is the source of understated humor, especially when he is described as doing things that would be particularly difficult for an elephant, such as floating along by clutching a helium balloon ("The Big Bang Theory"), climbing a tree ("The Skunk Who Would Be King"), or playing the animal version of Twister.
- Racquet the Skunk - is the best badminton player in the jungle, with a killer backhand. He is a doting uncle, and loves his young niece Rita. He loves to color with crayons. In "The Skunk Who Would Be King," we learned that long ago his family once lived in a castle. Racquet took this to mean that he was descended from royalty, but it turned out that they were actually servants in the castle.
