Talk:The Berzerker

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

[edit] Copyrighted material

Large chunks of this article appear to be directly lifted from Earache Records' official bio of the band (here [1] is the link), which is presumeably copyrighted. That would explain the lack of neutrality observed below. I'm going to edit out some of the offending parts. We need a less obviously biased source than the band's record label (which has an interest in pumping them up). Dkostic 17:50, 8 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Not Neutral

This article needs to be rewritten in a more neutral, scholarly tone. I've added the appropriate tag on the page. This situtation would also be helped by editing out the stuff lifted from Earache's official bio, which is copyrighted anyway. I've cleaned up the opening paragraph and completely rewritten the first paragraph of the bio, but the rest of it still needs work. I'm also going to contact the admins and request that this article be watched for its copyright problems. Sorry if I seem kind of shrill about this Dkostic 18:31, 8 October 2006 (UTC)

This article is good, but some of it needs a little reprhasing, as it's somewhat biased at the moment. Remarks like "This is without a doubt the most brutal album ever made without a drumkit and guitar amp. The spontaneity brought the focus away from feats of musicianship, and sent it towards monstrous sounding riffs and great songs." aren't neutral. Assuming no one minds, I'd like to edit it a little to set it straight. Col.clawhammer 06:48, 29 August 2006 (UTC)

You might be somewhat right, but The Berzerker most probably IS the most aggressive heavy metal band existing (for now). Music is something like hobby for me, and Metal music, especially extreme metal music, is practically my specialty :) Although The Berzerker group is somewhat controversial, in my opinion some if the passion of the fans should stay in the article because if you completely cut that out you loose a lot. --Borislav Dopudja 21:22, 10 September 2006 (UTC)
Well, I don't know if they're necessarily the most aggressive, but don't get me wrong, I really like the band. I'm a metalhead myself and the band offers a pretty unique sound you don't hear from anyone else. However, the page doesn't uphold the Wikipedia:Neutral Point of View standards. I can understand wanting to maintain the sentiments the article has- If I were to write the article from my own personal perspective, the summary would be something like "A fucking brutal industrial metal band". However, the goal here is to present a dictionary-quality entry, which requires a more objective, neutral standpoint. Col.clawhammer 17:23, 22 September 2006 (UTC)

Dude, Clawhammers right. Theres some non point of view stuff here it looks as if it has been written by a fan rather than an observer of facts which is the staple of a wikipedia writer. Some things you have written will need citations or removal for it to be worthy of being an encyclopedic article. For example :The new drummer learnt the whole set in an amazing six days would be changed to the drummer learnt the whole set in six days. I agree learning a whole concert set in six days is amazing but I cant write that because that is my opinion. If you do write an opinion it would have to be by a music industry professional who bears much clout as a professional also the statement would have to be relevant information for the artical. Other than that I learne3d alot about a band that I have not heard of before more so than some articles that purport to give background information yet are lacking so well done in that regard. I'll give you a while to make changes yourself and find other examples of what we talked about. Justin Anderson 07:22, 25 September 2006 (UTC)

"He also unofficialy held the world record for fastest drum beat at a stunning 19 beats per second using both hands." = Promotional speculation.

Since we all seem to be in agreement about this, I'm going to the clean up the article as soon as I have some free time. I'll do my best to remove or rewrite as little as possible, as long it matches the NPOV standards, but it's probably time to say goodbye to the "Drum Tracks" section. Col.clawhammer 02:10, 12 October 2006 (UTC)

Alright, I made the changes, though I'm not entirely happy with the final product. I think I got rid of the glowing enthusiasm and made it pretty neutral- I had to remove more than I really wanted to, as a lot of things were sketchy mixes of opinion and facts. Also, the article rarely made the distinction of when "The Berzerker" refered to the band itself or only Luke Kenny, I think I cleared it up. Lastly, the World of Lies section may be from the official Earache site, but I wasn't able to find it on the website - I left the reference to it there, just in case it is, but if someone know otherwise then please clear it up.
