The Moxie (band)

The Moxie is an independent biligual band originary of Kingston, ON, CA. The group consists of Jean-Philippe Lachapelle as lead vocals, Éric Fleurent-Wilson on guitar, his younger brother Louis Fleurent-Wilson on bass guitar and Samuel Rousseau on percussions.

The Moxie is an entirely bilingual band composing songs in either language. Every member of the band is fluent in both english and french.

Although Lachapelle and Éric had been composing material beforehand, the four assembled for a local annual french music competition: "Le gala opti-jeunesse" in which they took second place for a memorable performance of one of their more popular songs: Caramel. They later performed as an opening act at the annual St-Jean Baptiste festivities in Kingston.

This album is The Moxie's only album to date. It was privately funded and recorded both in a private studio in Gananoque,ON. and in the basement of the Fleurent residence in Kingston, ON. Although plagued with recording and schedualing difficulties the album none the less completed with a month of dedicated work from the band and recording technician Daniel Emmerson. The album consists of 16 tracks: 14 original compositions and two covers. The material ranges from admittedly romantic ballads to high energy drum and electric guitar driven rock. The lyrics revolve around themes such as loss of innocence, love and is riddled with sexual undertones. It is said that the guitarist, Eric, listened almost exclusively to commonly known "White Album" from The Beatles during recording.

[edit] The Break-Up

Despite diverging musical interests within the band it was education that ultimately caused disbandment. The singer, Lachapelle, left to Mcgill University in Montreal for a degree in Arts and Science. Guitarist Éric went to the University of Waterloo for a degree in Honours Mechanical Engineering, during which he spent two months in Punjab, India playing with a local band called "Loop". Drummer Rousseau has pursued other projects. Bassist Louis was last seen crossing the border into Tijuana, Mexico. His present whereabouts are unknown.

In late August 2006, Lachapelle and Éric reunited for an invite-only acoustic concert on an island on Lake Ontario. They performed old songs as well as some new material.
