[edit] Cup Record
The club reached Wembley Stadium three times in the final of the FA Vase during the 1990s. In 1993 they lost 1-0 to Bridlington Town but won the competition in successive seasons in 1998 and 1999 with 1-0 wins against Tow Law Town and Bedlington Terriers. The FA Cup First Round has been reached seven times, where the team has been defeated by the likes of Aldershot Town, Barnet, Leyton Orient, Cheltenham Town, Cardiff City, Crawley Town and Doncaster Rovers. The 1994 match against Leyton Orient saw a record crowd of 3,500 at Ladysmead watch Tivvy go down 3-1 to the Football League side.
[edit] Youth
In 2004 a youth team was established, managed by former Tivvy stalwart and manager of the Devon County football team Hedley Steele. In the first season of existence (2004-2005) the Somerset Floodlit Youth League Division One title was won and the team was promoted to the Premier Division. The 2005-6 season was just as successful as the 2004-5 season for the youth team, with a run in the FA Youth Cup seeing the defeat of Exeter City before losing to AFC Bournemouth and the championship of the Premier Division being clinched in the final game of the season. Hedley Steele resigned as youth team manager after the end of the 2005-6 campaign. He has been replaced by a joint-management team of Ian Nott and Andre Pike.
Players who have gone on to play for the senior side include Dave Hambly, Jak Martin, Adam Kelly, Terry Skeggs, Jamie Skinner and Tom Beddow. Tom Beddow scored the winning goal in the 2006 Devon St. Luke's Bowl final in extra time against Barnstaple Town.
Building on from this the club have introduced its youth development structure headed up by Colin Nation and Paul Main. This is designed to get youngsters from the area to start playing for Tivvy as young as 7 years old. It is hoped that one day the fruits of this scheme will be seen with players turning out for the first team coming from the youth development scheme.
[edit] The Martyn Rogers era
Manager Martyn Rogers (appointed in 1992 to replace John Owen) has presided over the most successful period in the club's history, which has so far included two FA Vase wins, five appearances in the FA Cup First Round (John Owen guided Tivvy to their first two appearances), four Western League titles and five Devon St. Lukes Bowl triumphs. In 1999 Tivvy were promoted to the Southern League for the first time. 2001 saw promotion from the Southern League Division One South & West to the Southern League Premier Division.
In their first season at that level Tivvy finished sixth, which they followed up with a fourth-place finish in the 2002-3 season. It looked like Tivvy would easily secure promotion to the newly created Conference South by finishing in the top thirteen the following season. However, a dismal second half of the season saw Tivvy competing in the play-offs to try and get into Conference South. Tivvy eased past Chelmsford City in the semi-finals, but were soundly beaten 3-1 in the final against Dorchester Town at St James Park, Exeter.
The 2004-5 and 2005-6 seasons disappointed fans, with the club missing out on the play-offs both seasons.
Despite the tremendous success Martyn Rogers has had as Tivvy manager, there is now a debate as to whether he should continue as manager. Much will hinge on the performance of a remodelled team in the 2006-7 season, the final season of Rogers' current contract.
