Carried by the Wind: Tsukikage Ran or Ran, the Samurai Girl (風まかせ月影蘭 Kazemakase Tsukikage Ran?) is a 13-episode anime series created in 2000 by Madhouse, and written and directed by Akitaro Daichi.
Set in the Edo period, this series is about a female ronin named Ran, who is accompanied by a highly talkative wandering martial artist from China, who calls herself Meow of the Iron Cat Fist (Nekotekken no Myao). Together Ran and Meow fight bandits, corrupt officials and other antagonists.
The anime television network, Animax, later aired the series across its networks worldwide, including Southeast Asia, South Asia, Latin America. It was also licensed for North American distribution by Bandai Entertainment.

[edit] Characters
- Ran Tsukikage (月影蘭 Tsukikage Ran) - Ran Tsukikage is a female wandering ronin whose skill with the katana is only matched by her craving for sake. All we know about Ran's past (as revealed in Ep. 13) is that she was trained in the way of the sword by a samurai named Junzaburo Shiina who also gave her her first taste of sake. She often goes "wherever the wind takes her". Ran often describes herself as a "beautiful woman" who, when faced with a foe or foes, can be quite unbeatable. However, Ran is often broke (as many ronin usually are), and is often asking Meow for money for food and sake.

- Meow (猫鉄拳のミャオ a.k.a. Myao) - Meow is a martial artist who is skilled in the fighting style dubbed "Nekotekken" or "Iron Cat Fist". Meow is rather hyperactive at times and has quite a definite sense of justice, but she often leaps into situations with little thought as to the consequences. Whenever Meow runs into Ran, it's often Meow who pays for Ran's food and sake. What we know of Meow's past is that she had a childhood friend named Mei who in Episode 9 had become a wealthy opium dealer, much to Meow's dismay.

The opening song ("Leave it to the wind" by Akemi Misawa) is said to be in the Enka style.
