Located in Tilburg, the Netherlands, Tilburg University is a compact institution for higher education, specialised in the humanities and social sciences and is located in the southern part of the Netherlands.
Tilburg University is well known for its excellent standards in education and scientific research as well as its good support facilities. In nationwide, European and international rankings Tilburg University has taken top-positions for many years, especially in the fields of economics, law and business. Within the Netherlands, Tilburg University is regularly ranked number one in all three of these fields. In 2002 and 2003 the Economics department was ranked number one in Europe according to the European Economic Association and was thus considered to be the best Economics department outside of the United States. In 2005 Tilburg University was ranked third by the School of Management of the University of Texas, Dallas, with regard to Business Research. The Faculty of Law has been ranked fourth in Europe by the Social Science Research Network. Both the Faculty of Arts and the Faculty of Social Sciences have also received high marks in nation-wide rankings. TIAS Business School, founded in 1986 by Tilburg University and the Eindhoven University of Technology, has recently also made a mark in international rankings by being placed at number 11 in the worldwide ranking of Executive MBA Programs by the Financial Times.
The compact campus, located in the west of Tilburg, offers ample opportunity for students to meet faculty and socialise. Out of a student population of over 12,000, about 7% are international students. This percentage has steadily increased over the past years as Tilburg University has pursued a strategy of internationalisation. It offers numerous English-taught programs and has gone through great pains to attract talented teaching and research staff. According to two independent studies by the university newspapers of the University of Amsterdam and the University of Delft, Tilburg University offers the most appealing and competitive support packages when it comes to the recruitment of international staff.
