University of Chicago Hospitals
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The University of Chicago Hospitals form a major center for medical care and research in the Hyde Park neighborhood of Chicago, Illinois. They are affiliated and run by the University of Chicago, and serve as teaching hospitals for students of the institution's Pritzker School of Medicine. While the hospitals service a wide spread of socioeconomic classes, they undertake special initiatives to reach out to the predominantly low income, African American persons of the South side of Chicago, for which they are the epicenter of emergency and primary care.
The hospitals were ranked the fourteenth best in the country by U.S. News and World Report. It is the only hospital in Illinois ever to be included in the magazine's "Honor Roll" of the twenty best hospitals in the United States. The same publication also noted eleven specialties in the hospital system for excellence, likewise leading the state.
The University of Chicago is also a leading hospital in the fight against cancer.
