Vadavannur

Vadavannur is predominantly agricultural Village in Chittur Taluk in Palghat District of Kerala, south India. Vadavannur is also a Panchayat. Neighbouring Panchayats of Vadavannur are Kollengode, Puthunagaram, and Pallassana.
Vadavannur so far is a part of Chittur Assembly Constituency and due to the recent redesigning of Assembly Seats in Kerala, Vadavannur will become part of Nemmara Assembly Constituency shortly and remain be a Palghat Parliament Constituency. Government institutions include Primary Health Centre, Post Office, Village Office , Krishi Bhavan. It has only one Bank Vadavannur Service Co-op. Bank. It has two primary/secondary schools and a High School.
Important Hindu Temples include Mannathu Bhavathy Kavu, Thirlampetta Siva Temple, Mazhur Kavu, Cheermba Kavu, Puthukkili KavuPookunni Siva TempleMariamman Kovil both at Pattathalachi and Coundathara.
Vadavannur as a village contributed its bit to the combined freedom struggle of India against British rule under Gandhiji's non cooperation movement. The noted freedom fighters are Madathil Pangu Menon, Parakkal Balachandra Menon, Azhakapadath Kochappan Nair, Parakkal Viswanatha Menon, Erath Kutty Krishnan Nair, Thodachathhe Vasudevan Nair and Pallasena Palaat Thankappan Nair. After India gained freedom, they have not been dragged into by the the loaves and fishes of office or in that matter for any party politics for long except Parakkal Balachandra Menon who was a Rajhya Saba MP in Communist Party of India label for a brief period till his death and he was the lone MP so far from Vadavannur.
Other prominent persons of the village include Late Pandit Vadekkepat Narayanan Nair who was great scholar in Sanskrit,late Sri M.G.R, late Sri Prof.Vadekkepat Vijayan the Kathakali exponent, former Chief Secretary of Kerala and presently Chief Information Commissioner is from the Palat family of Vadavannur. Sri T. Balakrishan, Principal Secretary (Industries and Commerce) Government of Kerala is from the Thodanchath family of Vadavannur,and Sri Vijayan Deputy Director of Customs and Central Exercise from Madathil Family.
Vadavannur is famous for its festivals, which happens once in 2 years. It starts from end of January and goes on till early April. The festival season starts with Kanyar. Then, there is a 7 day long Kummatti followed by a 7 day long Kali-Vela. Some of the prominent villagers in the art of Kanyar Kali are late Sr Samba Menon, late Sri Madathil KunjuKutta Menon, late Sri Madathil Unni Menon, late Sri Parakkal Sethumadhava Menon, Sri Vadakkepat Sundaran Nair and Sri Madathil Rajan.
