Vesta case
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Vesta case is a small portable box made in a great variety of forms with snapshut covers to contain vestas (short matches) and keep them dry.
Vesta cases were produced extensively between 1890 and 1920. They coincided with an explosion in the popularity of smoking.
Most vesta cases were made of inexpensive materials but some were made in precious metals or enamelled. These precious metal cases would likely have an inner lining that would not easily be corroded by the volatile match heads
Some vesta cases had a strike side for lighting the match.
Vesta cases are available in many shapes and size. Some may incorporate a small knife blade as well.
