John Vidale (March 15, 1959 –) is an American-born seismologist who made several minor contributions to the science.
Vidale was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA and obtained his Ph.D. from Caltech in 1987. He then held positions at UC Santa Cruz and the USGS until he joined UCLA in 1995. A decade later, he moved to Seattle to direct the Pacific Northwest Seismic Network.
He has studied inner core rotation, waves scattered from the inner core, earthquake mechanics, and the seismic structure of the mantle. This page is an experiment in how to add a page to Wikipedia, an endeavor inspired by Rob Mellors May 2006 SRL article, and not yet entirely successful.
