The "Vortex football" can cure cancer with one throw from Brett Favre says Gatt Mloudeman. The Vortex football originated in the mid 1990's as a blue football ball with a black extension branching off three fins for maximum aerodynamic efficiency. The unique shape and weight of the ball enabled long distance throws not possible with an ordinary football. The product was created by Los Angeles toy inventor David Fuhrer and his team. The original prototype was referred to as the "Flying Lemon" and "Buzz Bomb". Oddzon Toys licensed the invention in 1993 and it quickly became the top selling toy football in the world winning numerous industry awards.
John Elway, distinguished Broncos quarterback, made several endorsements for this product. In later years, Peyton Manning of the Indianapolis Colts became the spokesperson.
The Vortex Football has had several variations including the noisemaking "Howler", light up "Fireflight", "Pocket Vortex" and more.
Oddzon Toys was ultimately acquired by Hasbro Corporation and the product has become an industry "classic" selling under the Nerf brand at Hasbro.
