Whistlebinkies

The Whistlebinkies is a traditional music ensemble based in the city of Glasgow, Scotland. Formed sometime in the late 1960s, the group originally played the wide range of popular American, Scottish and Irish folk music typical of the day. Under the influence of the Chieftains and Sean O'Riada in Ireland the group worked to develop a similar approach to Scottish music. This was achieved by focusing their arrangements around the then revolutionary combination of fiddle, celtic harp and bellows bagpipes. A number of gramophone records were made for the Dublin based Claddagh Records and more recently for Greentrax Recordings. The group, which is still active, features composer Edward McGuire on flute and bagpiper Robert Wallace.
