Whiteout (comic book)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Whiteout is a black and white graphic novel created by writer Greg Rucka and artist Steve Lieber. It was originally released in four issues during 1998, by Oni Press. The story follows Carrie Stetko, a U.S. Marshal working at McMurdo Station in Antarctica, and her investigation of a murder that takes place there. It was followed by a sequel, Whiteout: Melt. A third volume in the series, Whiteout: Thaw is expected to be released as four separate issues beginning in the Fall of 2007.[1] The book once crossed over with Barry Ween, in a story illustrated by Judd Winick.
In 2000 Whiteout was nominated for Eisner Awards for Best Writer, Best Artist, Best Limited Series, and Best Graphic Album.
[edit] Movie adaptation
A movie version of Whiteout directed by Dominic Sena and starring Kate Beckinsale is set to begin filming in Montreal in March of 2007. The film will be produced by Joel Silver with a budget of about $15 million-$40 million.[2] Co-stars on the film will include Gabriel Macht, Tom Skerritt, and Columbus Short.[3] This follows earlier negotiations for a Whiteout film starring Reese Witherspoon, which never came to fruition.[4]
