William Alder Strange, DD

William Alder Strange (1813-1874 was a headmaster and author.
The son of William Strange of Jersey and Abingdon, a wine merchant, William Alder Strange was educated at Christ's Hospital, London, where he was Senior Grecian (1819); and Abingdon School. He became the first Boden scholar in Sanscrit at Oxford (1833) and was scholar of Pembroke College. He became headmaster of Abingdon School (1840-68) having previously been second master at Liverpool Royal Institution (1833-40). Following retirement from Abingdon, Dr. Strange was vicar of Bishop Middleham, County Durham (1838-74). He published Cards on Logic, a series of his Sermons and was a contributor to The Christian Annotator.
