WMSN-TV is a FOX station in Madison, Wisconsin. It is a typical Fox station, running primarily first run and off-network syndicated shows along with Fox programming, and a 9:00 p.m. newscast. The station is owned by the Sinclair Broadcasting Group. Its transmitter is located in Madison.
WMSN began as an independent station before becoming affiliated with Fox; WKOW Television, Inc. manages and directs FOX 47 News at Nine.
WMSN is located on Big Sky Drive, the site of the former Big Sky Drive-In Theater. For several years, WMSN broadcast "Big Sky Theater" on Saturday nights, featuring classic movies, mostly westerns, from the drive-in era.
Sinclair and Fox recently finalized a six-year affiliation contract extension for Sinclair's 19 Fox affiliates, including WMSM. WMSN's affiliation contract now expires in March 2012.[citation needed]
