World Mission Society Church of God
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The World Mission Society Church of God (in Korean, 하나님의교회 세계복음선교협회) was founded by Ahnsahnghong in 1964, when he left the Seventh-day Adventist Church. Today the charismatic leader of the church is Chung Gil Cha, known to followers as the Mother, although officially the current leader is Kim Joo-cheol. Chung Gil Cha She usually appears in public wearing hanbok, traditional Korean clothing. Within South Korea (and perhaps elsewhere), proselytizers introduce themselves (to foreigners) by asking whether the individual has heard of the Mother's love, or of the Heavenly Mother.
The World Mission Society Church of God inherited a number of the distinct characteristics of the Seventh-day Adventist movement, such as meeting on Saturdays, not celebrating Christmas or using the cross as a symbol. Female members of the church usually cover their head in a thin veil, although it is not worn by Chung Gil Cha.
The World Mission Society Church of God believes that the founder Ahnsahnghong (often referred as Christ Ahnsahnghong) is the second coming Jesus.
Members currently believe that Mother's death will coincide or precede a great nuclear fire. They cite the current build up of Korean nuclear armaments as evidence that this prophecy will soon be fulfilled.
