Year of the Cat is a song by British singer-songwriter Al Stewart. It is the title track of the album Year of the Cat, which was recorded at Abbey Road Studios, London in July 1976 and released in October of that year. It remains one of Stewart's most popular songs and receives regular airplay on both classic rock and folk rock stations. The song was co-written by Peter Wood.

- In a live show in 1991, Al recruited then unknown singer Tori Amos to fill in for his regular piano player, but due to problems with her passport they both pretended she was Russian.
- The song is featured in the soundtrack for the 2006 film Running with Scissors.
- When asked in a BBC-Online Chat on March 4 2000[1] which song was the quintessential Steely Dan song, Walter Becker (demonstrating the renowned dry humour associated with Steely Dan) replied, "Year of the Cat."
