About Me

Hi, my name is Chad and I am a full-time user of Wikipedia. I am currently 18 and I reside in central Virginia, in the United States. I am a college student, dual majoring in business and math, with the intent to go to law school and obtain a degree in law. I am an openly gay male, and am just getting over a long term relationship. I also maintain an internship working in a government office doing web development projects.

I do What?

On Wikipedia, I do small corrections here and there as I find them, but as I hate my style of writing, I don't contribute much fresh content. It's just not what I'm good at. However, I feel that each of us has something we can do, and this is why I am an active vandal-fighter. I use popups as I'm browsing the wiki, but when I want to get down-and-dirty so to speak, I have been approved usage of VandalProof. This being said, I have absolutely no tolerance for blatant vandalism. It should be reverted on sight and the appropriate warnings given, blocking if needed. On a lighter note, I am a member of the mediation committee, currently serving as the chair. I am also a sysop, so e-mailing me or asking on my talkpage will get a fairly prompt response (check out the list of admins if you need help from a different admin). Recently, I've been trying to clear out the seemingly massive backlog of deprecated templates, and all of the related subcategories. I enjoy what I do.

Wiki-Philosophy

I feel that what we are doing here is very important, and is a major asset to society, even if we don't see it now. 30 years down the road, who knows where this will be, but I honestly believe that Wikipedia will one day become such a common resource that encyclopedia will redirect to Wikipedia.

Factoid: There are 3,984,926 users on Wikipedia, and only 1,159 administrators; that's about 3,438 users per admin, or 0.29 admins per 1,000 users. Now, admins aren't police, and most user accounts aren't active, so these stats aren't strictly comparable, but the average ratio in USA cities is 2.3 police officers per 1,000 residents. So isn't it nice that there's always an admin around when you need one?

On Essjay

On 4 March 2007, we lost a user who--in my opinion--was one of the single most valuable contributors to the English Wikipedia, not to mention the other various projects of the Wikimedia Foundation. He was also a major force within Wikia, and his dedication to the English Wikipedia's dispute resolution process was to be commended above all else. He served in the roles of an administrator, bureaucrat, checkuser, oversight, helped with the board elections, was a valued editor--and above all, was a good friend. It pained me to see what was going on, and pained me even more so to see his leaving of the projects. He was a valued contributor, and helped many others over the course of his time here. His effort placed for the Mediation Committee put it in the place it is now, and I am absolutely honored to serve after him as the chair. Above all, I shall miss him as a friend. The one thing I ask everyone to do is please keep his quote above in mind.
