Phoenix Wright (character)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Phoenix Wright, Ryuichi Naruhodo (成歩堂龍一, Naruhodō Ryūichi), is a defense attorney in Capcom's smash hit series, Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney. Phoenix is generally easy-going, which usually leads to his friends leading him around. He's dedicated to defending his innocent clients, but because he's just starting out he depends a lot on his boss and mentor, Mia Fey. Phoenix is also a loyal friend who won't back down once he's set his mind on something. He has a bit of a sarcastic side that he usually keeps to himself.
The first suggestion for Phoenix's Japanese name was "Souka Naruhodo" ("Oh, yes, I see now") but that was quickly struck down by higher members of the staff. They settled for just Naruhodou instead.
[edit] Motivation
Phoenix became an attorney because he was saved by Miles Edgeworth and Larry Butz during a class trial back when he was in the fourth grade. The three became fast friends, Edgeworth boring them with about how his father was a great defense attorney and how he aspired to be one in later life. Because of the DL-6 Incident, Edgeworth left town.
It was a quite a few years later that Phoenix heard Edgeworth's name again, he saw a story in a paper with the headline "Dark Suspicions of A Demon Attorney." The article said that Prosecutor Edgeworth was suspected of tampering with witnesses and fabricating evidence. Despite the face that Phoenix attempted to contact him, he was ignored. And that's when Phoenix decided that if he was an attorney, Edgeworth would have to meet him whether he liked it or not, in court.
[edit] Trivia
- By the time Gyakuten Saiban 4 comes, Phoenix will have been in the defendant's chair 3 times. The first was in PW1:AA Case 2, when Redd White implicated him as Mia Fey's murderer. In Gyakuten Saiban 3, he is charged with his girlfriend's ex's death and in Gyakuten Saiban 4, he is charged with the death of a fellow poker player.
- His close friends call him "Nick" as opposed to Phoenix. The people who do this the most are Maya and Larry.
- Phoenix doesn't have a driver's license or a car. It's unclear where he lives but he does have a place as Maya calls him in PW1:AA Case 3 when Powers is arrested.
- He has saved two clients twice, Maya Fey (PW1, Case 2 and PW2, Case Two) and Maggey Byrde (PW2, Case 1 and PW3, Case 3)
- By the end of PW3, his trial record is 11-1, the loss being PW2, Case 4
- The final witness that he cross examines in his story arc is his best friend, Maya Fey.
