I am currently very busy at med school and have no time to add to wikipedia. I'll add on what I can during the holidays.
PhatRita is a medical student at the University of St Andrews. During the holidays I return to my sunny home of Manchester in England.
Please note I am he and not she. Rita comes from a very very long story involving certain wordprocessing fonts in which f looks like t.
[edit] Alternative medicine
I have an interest in alternative medicine. There are up to 36% of Americans and around 20% of UK citizens using complementary and alternative medicine (CAM). Some medicines leads to dangerous and even fatal side effects. As such, this topic warrants necessary attention already.
In terms of whether CAM works or not, I'm a skeptic although I do feel that alternative medicine should be given a chance to prove itself. The one thing that carries any weight with me is evidence base. This means journals and peer reviewing and reasoned arguments. Opinions are welcome, but there must be some evidence to back them up. I think alternative medicine will be much more important in the 21stC, especially in the UK, as a more patient based and market force NHS emerges. This is especially true with the advent of NICE and foundation hospitals.
My interest in complementary medicine has also taken me to the homeopathy section. I have done some minor editing (and mostly arguing in the talk page) in Alternative medicine.
[edit] Basic medical sciences
I'm planning to revamp the sections on human anatomy and physiology. Visit my Preclinical Medicine Wikiproject. Had an interest in some drawing, but had to give it up for medical school. Now I'm planning to use that for drawing anatomical or just medical diagrams to release on wikipedia.
[edit] Other stuff
I love history, thought I'm not nearly well versed enough to start editing. I also do weird stuff like golf, soccer and running.
I'm currently trying to set up a preclinical medical notes website which will have a large section on alternative medicine. Hopefully a neutral and sensible source of information in the years to come. Visit here. Be warned it is still in progress and that there WILL be lots of popups until I can get some kind of better hosting. The only thing finished is the template for the whole thing (been really busy). However, I may just have alternative medicine as a section in the future depending on if anyone helps me achieve this site.
