2900t class submarine

This is a new class of diesel-electric submarine being built in Japan for use by the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force. It is believed to be an evolved form of the Oyashio class submarine, the latest SSK operated by the JMSDF, with a larger displacement.

  • Propulsion: 1 shaft diesel electric
  • Armament
    • Torpedoes: 6 × 21 inch (533 mm) torpedo tubes. Carries Type 89 or Type 80 ASW torpedoes, or Sub-Harpoon missiles.
