"2Shy" is the sixth episode of the third season of The X-Files. Meeting insecure women through an on-line service, a serial killer seduces his prey with the right words.
Mulder and Scully determine these killings are far from ordinary by the presence of a strange substance coating the victims, a substance which seems to digest the fatty acids in flesh. The killer, Virgil Incanto, is a freelance writer who translates between Italian and English and specializes in classical Italian literature. After becoming desperate for nutrition, he attacks a local prostitute--only to be interrupted in the process. Using records of one of the victim's "online e-mails", the detectives note reproductions of rare Italian poetry, which helps them build a list of subjects. Text taken from the 2Shy summary [1].
[edit] Trivia
While every episode at the time was filmed in the Vancouver area, the episode is set in Cleveland, Ohio. The filming accurately simulated the lakefront and downtown Flats; one of the apartments has a Cleveland Indians pennant; and in a map of northeast Ohio in the local field office which is used in finding whether Virgil Incanto is a professor of Italian, it appears that lines are traced around the area of Case Western Reserve University, the fairly selective private college on the eastern edge of town.
