Khandaghosh is a town, police station and community development block in the Sadar subdivision of Bardhaman District, West Bengal, India.

Unlike the rest of Bardhaman district, which lies to the north of the Damodar River, the Khandaghosh-Jamalpur-Raina area lies on the alluvial plains between the Damodar on its southern/ eastern side and Dwarakeswar river. As a result it has been a flood prone area. [1]

In Peterson’s District Gazeteer of 1910 there is mention of Khandaghosh and other police stations in Bardhaman subdivision. [2] In 1968-69, Khandaghosh and other blocks were created. [3]
[edit] Movements
Damodar floods wrought havoc in the area and Dasarathi Tah initiated the ‘Nakrah hana embankment movement’ and even published a weekly newspaper named Damodar to focus on the problems faced by the people in the area. [4] The August movement of 1942 had a great impact in the area. The post office at Khandaghosh was burnt down. [5] In 1942, the Communist Party started building its rural peasant bases under the leadership of Benoy Choudhury. Leaders in the area were Sahedullah and Panchu Guha. [6]

A dispensary was set up at Khandaghosh as early as 1804. [7]

Khandaghosh community development block spread over 256.13 sq km had a total population of 170,331 in 2001. Out of this, 87,636 were males and 82,695 were females. Hindus formed 68.39% of the population and Muslims 31.59 %. [8]

Prasanta Majhi of CPI (M) won the Khandaghosh (SC) assembly seat in 2006 defeating his nearest rival Biswanath Roy of AITC. In 2001, Jyotsna Singha of CPI (M) defeated Banshi Badan Roy of AITC. In 1996, 1991 and 1986 Shiba Prasad Dalui of CPI (M) defeated Basudev Mandal, Sankar Nath Maji and Pramatha Dhibar, all of INC, in the respective years. In 1982 and 1977, Purna Chandra Malik of CPI (M) defeated Manoranjan Pramanik of INC. [9]
Monoranjan Pramanik of INC won the seat in 1972. [10] In, 1971, the seat was won by Purna Chandra Malik of CPI (M). [11] Gobardhan Pakray of Samyukta Socialist Party won it in 1969.[12] Jaharlal Banerjee of INC won it in 1962. [13]
Khandaghosh constituency was not there in 1957 and in 1951 it was a general constituency. It was won by Jb Md Hossain of INC. [14]
Khandaghosh is part of Bardhaman (Lok Sabha constituency). [15]
