Philadelphia Rockets
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Philadelphia Rockets was the name of two professional ice hockey teams that played in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Both teams played home games in the Philadelphia Arena.
The first Rockets team, existed for the 1941-42 AHL season. The team was formerly known as the Philadelphia Ramblers from 1935 through 1941, and was the primary minor league affiliate of the New York Rangers. The Rangers ended the agreement after the 1940-41 AHL season.
When the original Rockets folded in 1942, they were replaced by the Philadelphia Falcons of the Eastern Hockey League. In 1946, the Falcons were replaced by the second Rockets team, playing in the American Hockey League. Four members of the Falcons (Vic Lofvendahl, Harvey Jacklin, Clayton Lavell, George DeFilice), made the jump to the higher league. The new Rockets team played in the AHL for three seasons from 1946 to 1949.
