- Nevada Proving Grounds -- June 1, 1952. Sixth Army troops from Camp Desert Rock attack towards an atomic blast during a maneuver held by the Army at the AEC's Nevada Proving Grounds in conjunction with the Atomic Energy Commission's nuclear test June 1st.The troops in foxholes 7,000 yards from the blast, charged forward in battle formation as soon as the shock wave swept over their position -- about 20 seconds and advanced several thousand yards towards ground zero before being halted by radiological safety rules. (part of operation Tumbler-Snapper)
