[edit] Agree
Agree with the above comments, other than his personal information the rest is full of subjective one sided and ambiguous data. I would suggest a complete restart, specially noticing his new found force as the main candidate for the Costa Rica's next election.
[edit] date of birth
I just reverted an anon who changed Arias's year of birth from 1940 to 1941, going on what the Arias foundation says here (1940). But on the wider internet, there are a large number of hits for 1941, and (worryingly) '41 is what my print Britannica says. Even the Nobel Foundation cites both: 1940 & 1941. I'll try and investigate some more. –Hajor 16:07, 11 October 2005 (UTC)
- Update: from an e-mail received from an assistant to the Dirección Ejecutiva, Fundación Arias para la Paz y el Progreso Humano, www.arias.or.cr:
- El Dr. Arias Sánchez nació en el año 1940, según se indica en nuestra página web.
- Kudos to the foundation for their prompt reply to an anonymous e-mail query. Arias's web site for his presidential campaign ([1]) also says 1940. Unless someone can dig up press references accusing OA of trying to make himself out to be a year older than he really is, that's good enough for me. –Hajor 20:51, 11 October 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Page location
Shouldn't this be at Óscar Arias Sánchez? I've usually seen him called "Arias Sánchez," rather than just "Arias." john k 16:13, 20 October 2005 (UTC)
- It was, until I moved it a couple of weeks ago. But (and see, in particular, the message from the Fundación Arias quoted above) maybe he is more commonly known by the double surname. –Hajor 16:30, 20 October 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Nicaragua
An article about Óscar Arias without even one "Nicaragua" in it. I'd say - suspicious. Noam Chomsky's Necessary Illusionshey u wanna suck my ==

provide a different POV on this guy, but given the fact that I am not that acquainted with Latin American affairs, I'll remain silent and watch this article. --FlavrSavr 21:50, 20 December 2005 (UTC)
yeah that was me writing the new article, ok, maybe a little one sided haha. I'll try to fix it just give me a while...
oh and by the way, him being the new president of my country, thats something im willing to fight against even on wikipedia
[edit] Last Election & Current Events
More information needs to be added from the 2006 election. His personal relationship with former Nicaraguan "Contra" and current sugarcane mogul in Costa Rica and his involvement with the large industrial sector of the country need to be expanded. His shift from Social Democratic policy in the 80's to his current Neo-Liberal stance is a particularly interesting phenomena.
