The article was supplied by myself; Janet Hughes, daughter of the plane's navigator, Reg Wilson (now 82). My father was in 102 squadron, based at Pocklington, near York. He wrote the article to commemorate the 60th anniversary of his lucky escape. There are still three surviving crew members: my father, Reg, Laurie Underwood (bomb aimer) now 83, and John Bushell (rear gunner) now 81. The surviving pilot (George Griffiths) died in 1998. My father is due to fly to Berlin in September 2005, accompanied by my mother, Barbara, and his grandson, Christopher (my son) to commemorate the liberation of Stalag IVB in April 1945. (Unfortunately, I am unable to accompany the group due to work commitments, as I teach French and German in a Surrey Comprehensive School.) The Berlin trip is being organised by the Stalag IVB ex-POW Association; a group representing former prisoners. The ex-POW's and their dependants will be hosted by the Muehlberg Initiative Group during their stay. The trip was recently publicised during a BBC TV broadcast on the 60th anniversary of VE Day.
