- 13 May - May 13th Incident: Race riots occur in Kuala Lumpur
- 16 May - The Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Ismail Nasiruddin Shah declared the state of emergency and dissolved the parliament
- 17 May - The MAGERAN Council (Majlis Gerakan Negara) is established and act as a temporary legislative council.
- June - Radio Malaysia and Television Malaysia merged into one broadcasting service Radio Television Malaysia.
