[edit] DH?
I read somewhere that the entire 1982 Series was played with the designated hitter/AL rules. If this is true, why was it played that way? Certainly that is not the case now, when the DH is in effect only in AL parks. The article might do well to address this issue. -Phoenixrod 01:02, 2 August 2006 (UTC)
The DH, implemented in the American League in 1973, was not used at all in the World Series until 1976. It was decided by MLB that the DH would be used for all World Series games played in even numbered years ('76, '78, etc), and no DH would be used in all games played in odd number years (starting in 1977). This practice continued until 1986, where the rule was changed to its current incarnation of being used every season, but only in games in which the AL representative is the home team.
