The 316th Wing was activated on 22 June 2006 as part of the Air Force District of Washington. The 316th bears the consolidated lineage of the 1776th Air Base Wing (the former host unit at Andrews) and the 316th Tactical Airlift Wing which was last inactivated on 1 Oct 1975. The 316th is responsible for host base functions at Andrews Air Force Base and has one flying unit assigned -- the 1st Helicopter Squadron.
