The 43rd Wisconsin was organized at Madison, Wisconsin and mustered into Federal service by companies between August 8 and September 30, 1864.
The regiment was mustered out on June 24, 1865.

The 43rd Wisconsin suffered one enlsited man killed or fatally wounded in action and 2 officers and 72 enlisted men who died of disease, for a total of 75 fatalities.[[1]
