[edit] Pre-event
The rally returned to the Vercors and Ardèche regions of France for the first time since 1997. Due to the popularity of the rally concerns arose about spectator safety, after the shakedown stage was cancelled due to heavy spectator crowding. The rally has some returns and new faces, namely the return of Citroën with the highly developed C4 WRC with drivers Sébastien Loeb and Dani Sordo. BP Ford returned to defend their manufacturers' title in 2006 with the same team of Marcus Grönholm and Mikko Hirvonen. Subaru also returned with the same 2006 team of Petter Solberg and Chris Atkinson. In addition to the BP Ford Team, Stobart VK Ford return with previous drivers Matthew Wilson and Jari-Matti Latvala as well as Henning Solberg that joins from OMV Peugeot. Another Ford team has been entered under the team name of Munchi's Ford Rally Team with drivers Luis Perez Companc and fellow Argentine Juan Pablo Rales, they will contest 10 rallies in 2007.
