Talk:A34 road
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Only one bypass. Was the Clayton by-pass in Congleton not pre 1955?
- this site suggests pre-WWII.
The original route was Winchester to Oxford only. The remainer of the route was added in the 1930s. Oxford to Wolverhampton was the A42 (cf. the present road) and Wolverhampton to Salford part of the A449.
- Wolves to Newcastle-under-Lyne was A449. Newcastle - Salford was A526 (A526 is now a short road leading south from the M57 at junction 3) Richard B 18:00, 27 June 2006 (UTC)
In 1990, I'm sure I remember this road extending all the way to southampton. It was converted into the M3 when the twyford down cutting was completed in 1994.
- You're remembering the A33.
