Abaza family
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Abaza family is one of the largest families in Egypt (Cairo, Alexandria, Damanhour, Al Sharqiyah) discounting the, once, Royal Family of Muhammad Aly Pasha Al-Kebir. The family size in Egypt alone is said to reach 100,000 people. They are also said to have branches of family in Turkey, the Netherlands, and Iraq. They are a Circassian/Adyghe family originally from the Northwest Caucasus region of Russia. They are in fact Caucasian of the Caucasus Mountains and are not of middle eastern origin. Since their arrival more than 800 years ago they have made great contributions to Egypt and the Egyptian people and culture.
