[edit] Aegis: a speculative alternate etymology without a reference
"Alternatively it has been suggested that it was originally symbolic of the storm-cloud and derived from aisso, signifying rapid, violent motion. Another possible etymology is from the root Αιγ- (Aeg-) meaning wave, as per Αιγαίον (Aegean) = wavy sea." This is not Greek.
