[edit] The Beginning
I have been editing here since April 2006. I started out making a few minor edits here and there and then started cleaning up links in articles to correct ambiguous links.
[edit] Indy 500 Champ Succession
Soon after, I decided that there should be succession boxes connecting all the winners of the Indianapolis 500. This led to me discovering that not all of the winners had articles, so I created them for the 10 who didn't.
[edit] Indy 500 Drivers
Next, I started looking at the pages for each year's Indy 500 race and began correcting some diacritics for the foreign drivers as well as several ambiguations. Starting at 2002, there were drivers who did not have their own articles, so, I've been creating them sequentially, going back through the years. I got slowed down in 1996, when someone challenged the notability of Brad Murphey, so needed to bulk that one up enough to keep it from getting deleted. So far I have created 112 articles to complete all the drivers who have raced in 1955 through 2002 (2003-2006 were already complete).
[edit] IRL Drivers
At this point (back when I was at 1993 above), I got side-tracked looking at the Year in IRL articles. I started on the same clean-ups as I had on the above and once again started creating articles. I am now done, having created 17 for 1996-2003. I got slowed down on Dave Steele and had to create a disambiguation page and do a bit of clean-up to fix all the links for all the people named David or Dave Steele.
[edit] Indy 500 Results
When I got to the 1979 season, I noticed a discrepancy in the results for the 1971 race, so now I am working my way backwards from 2006 to make sure they are all correct. I'll fix them as I go, so far I see:
- Correct: 2005-2006
- Incorrect and fixed: 2004
I'm also checking all the (R)ookie and previous (W)inner flags at the same time. - stopped this around 1995
And, upon further review, the qualifying speeds also have some issues, so I'll be fixing them as well.
Changes made to 1962-1963, 1971, 1979, 1986, 1993, 1996-1997, 2002, and 2004-2006. No errors found in 1961, 1964-1970, 1972-1978, 1980-1985, 1987-1992, 1994-1995, 1998-2001, and 2003.
So far completed reviewing 1955-2006
[edit] Disambiguations
I have started working on the big disambiguation projects from Wikipedia:Disambiguation pages with links. So far, I have completed 9 of them.
[edit] Other project items
As my userboxes indicate, you can often find me on patrol at new pages. I also like to go through the deletion logs to look for reposts and db-talks on occasion. In August, I got VandalProof, so, now I am scanning recent changes also.
[edit] Things I plan to get to...
Several of the Year 24 Hours of Le Mans articles have text that could link to articles about the drivers. I will probably clean some up, but will probably not create articles for these. I was thinking of doing something for the 12 Hours of Sebring, maybe links for text, but can't remember.... Similar for Johnny Parsons, maybe something about the article saying there are 12 Indy 500 starts and not seeing links to that many - probably a mix-up with Johnnie Parsons, father. Also, I jotted down these names (Fabrizio Barbazza, Jim Clark, Mark Donohue, Denny Hulme, Parnelli Jones, Graham McRae, Rick Mears, Vern Schuppan - rookie sort, Jackie Stewart, Bill Vukovich) as being special for something.... I can't check now because it will mess up my history, but I'll get it later. It probably has something do do with being on a List of ..... from a category related to Indy 500 drivers or rookies or something. Tony Bettenhaussen needs correcting, but once again, I'll get it as I go year by year.
I may create a userbox for VU....
